BIS Certification Services in India

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is India’s national standards body responsible for product certification, quality management, and standardization. BIS certification — including the ISI mark — is mandatory for a growing range of products sold in India. As India’s regulations expand, working with an experienced BIS certification consultant is essential to avoid costly delays and non-compliance penalties.

In 2025–2026, BIS has significantly expanded its mandatory certification scope, adding furniture, footwear, stainless steel products, and 9-karat gold hallmarking to the list. Over 200 Indian Standards were rolled out or updated between March and May 2026 alone.

Services We Provide

  • BIS product certification (ISI mark) for domestic manufacturers
  • Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) for electronics and IT products
  • Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme (FMCS)
  • BIS hallmarking for gold and silver jewellery
  • ISI mark renewal and scope extension
  • Factory audit preparation and compliance support
  • Lab testing coordination with BIS-recognized laboratories

Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS)

The CRS mandates that specified electronics and IT products must be registered with BIS and tested at BIS-recognized labs before they can be sold or imported into India. As of 2025, more than 60 product categories are notified under CRS, covering items from power adapters and LED drivers to smart speakers and EV chargers.

Recent BIS Updates (2025–2026)

  • Furniture certification mandatory — Beds, tables, chairs, desks, and storage units require BIS certification from February 2026, with MSME grace period until August 2026
  • Stainless steel products — Seamless pipes and tubes mandatory from August 2025
  • Aluminium cookware — New regulations on heavy metal limits (lead, mercury, cadmium) and expiry recommendations
  • Scheme X discontinued — As of January 2026, BIS Scheme X is no longer required
  • Medical device standards — Over 200 updated Indian Standards spanning medical devices and other sectors

Why BIS Matters

Products under BIS compulsory certification cannot be manufactured, imported, or sold in India without the appropriate BIS mark. Non-compliance can result in penalties up to Rs. 5 lakh, product seizure, and criminal prosecution. For foreign manufacturers, the FMCS scheme provides a pathway to obtain certification through authorized Indian representatives.
